Catholic Partnership Habitat House

19 Jan

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro and The Catholic Partnership teamed up to provide a much needed home for a family in need. The Catholic Partnership consists of

  • St Benedict’s Catholic Church
  • St Mary’s Catholic Church
  • St Pius X Catholic Church
  • St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church
  • Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church

The home was dedicated on December 6th on a chilly Saturday morning. Trudy Menzzentto(co-chair, Catholic Partnership) welcomed all of us. The Dedication Ceremony included prayers, song, presentation of gifts and warm words to and from the receiving family. This was my first experience working with Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Partnership which truly was heartfelt.

This project could not have been a success if it weren’t for Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Partnership, The Construction Staff, AmeriCorps Members and people of the community volunteering their time.

The landscaping was completed just before lunch time because of the many hands involved. Randal Romie drew up a design, Gossetts Nursery donated the plants and I helped to install. Drought tolerate plants that were utilized were; a bradford pear tree, abelia, ligustrum and nandina shrubs and many perennials from my garden and other volunteers.

These times are difficult for many of us and volunteering is free. Bring the whole family to participate in an activity helping others to have a home. We live in a generous and caring community which is prevalent on this very street where many homes were built by volunteers.

Think about volunteering your time for a good cause. Give them a call.

Thursday February 5th 7pm at 220 State Street (Temporary St PiusX Church office) there will be a meeting of minds for those interested in participating. Again, Catholic Partnership and Habitat for Humanity will come together to create a much needed home, with the help of volunteers. Please come for a brainstorming session for ideas on fundraising.

Happy Planting!

    Hi Diana,
Thanks for the “publicity” and, of course, for your work on the landscaping. These are some good photos!
Yes, there continues to be a need for decent, safe housing in Greensboro and I appreciate your spreading the word.
I was at the house last week and all the plants seem to be surviving our unusual winter.
FYI – the 5th church in the Catholic Partnership is Our Lady of Grace, of which I am a member, and whose parochial vicar, Father James, did the blessing at the dedication.
Mohamed and Darma are doing well and are happy in their new home.
This project has been such a success that we are planning to build another house. We’ve got a meeting scheduled for February to brainstorm fundraising ideas and other planning. This is a really fun group. If you know of anyone who might be interested in serving on the committee please pass along my contact information. We welcome new volunteers!

      Trudy

I have just added Our Lady of Grace to the post.

Let me know when the meeting will take place and I will send along the information with my monthly newsletter to inform folks.
