Affordable Holiday Decorating Ideas using Nature

15 Dec

You can’t get more affordable than using nature to decorate for the holidays. Here are some easy and fun ideas to brighten your holidays while keeping the cash in your wallet.

Materials needed:

  • a centerpiece candle holder
  • a pretty container
  • a plastic container to fit inside you pretty container, for water
  • evergreens from your garden
  • small red bows
  • craft moss or garland
  • floral foam

First, place your plastic container inside of your pretty holiday container and insert your floral foam.

Next, place your centerpiece candle holder in the middle.

I like to place craft moss or garland on top of the floral foam to hide it completely.

A few good evergreens to prune for your arrangement are

  • holly
  • osmanthus
  • euouymous
  • pine
  • cedar
  • camellia

Insert into the foam and water. This holiday arrangement will keep for 10 or more days. If left outside on a pergola, the cold air will preserve your display longer. I tied small red bows from the dollar store to add a pop of color. Don’t let your grasses go to waste either. Add a few for contrast. Try to mix different textures and shades of green for a magnificent display for your holiday guests entering your front door.

Another easy craft is simply to cut evergreen branches with foliage of different textures and add rafia for contrast. Place a holiday bow or ribbon on top and you have an instant decoration for your outdoor fences, pergolas  and doors, practically free.

This is a great way to get the kids involved too.

Have a wonderful holiday by using natures treasures.
