The Incarnata is a perrenial in our area (Zone 7), and does not have an invasive root system. It is a lovely plant that blooms throughout the summer into the fall months. We grow hundreds of these each year, with much success and many butterflies!

Hi Donna,

The Milkweed variety which grows in our Zone 7(NC) is Asclepias tuberosa or the common name Butterfly Weed.
It is on the invasive side, so just be careful where it is planted.

It has a beautiful mid-summer bloom

Happy Planting!

another beautiful plant for a memorial garden would be Asclepias Incarnata (Swamp Milkweed). This plant is the only host plant of the Monarch butterfly. The butterfly lays her eggs on the plant, which then becomes sustenance for growing baby caterpillars. The caterpillar turns into a chrysalis and is born a beautiful butterfly. A lovely way to remember your precious one amongst the angels.
